Because We Are Young

On May 1st 2010, the feast of St Joseph the Worker, young people across England and Wales came together at Westminster Cathedral in London to take part in YCW's 'Because You are Young' event. The day began with mass where we celebrated and gave thanks for the contribution that young people give to the Church and Society. On the steps of Westminster Cathedral young people took part in a rally where they stood up for young people and called for greater respect and dignity for 16-30 year olds. Skewing the views, but that’s OK

It just means that we’ve all got something to prove

We all have a role, the world is your oyster

Know your worth, respect yourself

Life is too short there’s no time to loiter

Have FAITH, have HOPE, have GRACE

Have LOVE, have sense, stay safe

Our generation’s the future, we have the answers

It’s written all over your face

Keep your dignity, you should be proud

You are important, stand up & count

Stand up to the crowd

When you really have love for yourself then you will know how…

Because we wear hoods?

We should support each other

Because we are young

We have all come together

But remember we won’t be young forever

I’m not trying to preach to the choir

You are all here ‘cause you’re trying to reach a bit higher

And God loves a tryer, I’m joking

You gotta set yourself on fire

You know inside, the wrong from right

Only you have the power to change your own life

We have different strengths, different types

But in somebody’s darkness, you are the light

What’s the meaning of dreaming, if you don’t achieve it

If you believe it, then say it and mean it

The brain needs fuel so you gotta feed it. Knowledge is power, no eejits
